Pathways: Seek Help from the Lord

The heart of Isaiah 32 focuses on the thought in verse 17, “the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.” The ultimate result of seeking help from God is finding peace, quietness of soul, and assurance. God gives a certain peace for those who seek Him. Jesus promised that He could give a peace, a calmness of the soul, that nothing in the world could give (John 14:27).

Peace has two qualities. There is peace with God. “Therefore being justified (made right with God) by faith, we have peace with God” (Romans 5:1). When a person is saved, the enmity between that soul and God is over. God removes the guilt barrier through Jesus Christ. Worry about sin and hell are over.

But there is also the peace of God. One cannot have the peace of God without having peace with God. Until peace with God comes through salvation, one cannot know the peace of God. There is a special peace of God that a believer experiences. “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6, 7). It seems that a lot of people are trying to have the peace of God without having peace with God. Paul said, “Examine yourselves whether ye be in the faith” (2 Corinthians 13:5). It is not bad business from time to time to examine one’s faith to see if it is real.

God also promises quietness and assurance when one pursues help from Him. I find it no better expressed than in Psalm 4:7, 8: “Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.” Have you ever been anxious, nervous, and upset? Seek the Lord. He has what you need.

Need help? Seek the Lord. He has great peace, righteousness, and quietness awaiting you.
